Whole Lotta Trouble: Intermezzo

From Two Plus Two, Part 8, October 28, 2008; this passage begins with an excerpt from What "incredibly tough" foreign policy actions is Obama preparing? by Patrick Martin, October 25, 2008:

Foreign policy journals and pundits linked to the Democratic Party have undoubtedly been discussing many such doomsday scenarios, and Biden's language suggests that the use of the US nuclear arsenal, the world's largest, is under consideration by those who are formulating the foreign and military policy of an Obama-Biden administration.

The expectation is that they will use nuclear weapons to show everybody how tough Obama is.

From Nuclear Strike on US Imminent?, February 16, 2007:

Bin Laden is believed to have bought some small nuclear weapons, possibly from organized crime figures in Chechnya.[snip]

It is vital to note that this isn't just a bunch of backwards tribesman running around in the mountains with something they may not be able to use. Bin Laden is anything but unintelligent and unsophisticated in his thinking.[snip]

Bin Laden contracted technicians and other personnel from the former Soviet Union to maintain his nuclear weapons and advise him regarding them. It would be quite foolish to assume that all these weapons are "duds" or that for some other reason Bin Laden can't pull this off. The 9/11 attack probably seemed quite unimaginable to many until it happend.

Divertimento:

From Gotham City Teasers I, October 26, 2008:

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 10 of 12:

"The danger is not past, Bruce," his mother's voice answered.

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 12 of 12:

But Ra's al Ghul knew something more; he knew that it would not end with the destruction of the Gotham Towers.

The Eagle and the Butterfly:

"To murder a man and to destroy an entire village are both crimes, but, as terrible as the one is, it pales in significance when compared to the other."

Late at Night in the Batcave:

"You think this new crime syndicate, the Mujahideen, have nuclear weapons, don't you, sir?" It wasn't a question. "You think they have them here in Gotham."

Gotham City Teasers V

Inky Black:

Gordon stood up, and walked towards the window. Out there, in the inky blackness of Gotham's night, there were organized crime hitmen, corrupt GBI agents, Gotham Police officers – all looking for one man, all looking to collect a reward for finding him. Word on the street was that there would be no investigation into his death, and that no one would do time for killing him – Falcone would see to that.

Vasilissa the Beauty (Part 1 of 12):

"By the way, Bruce," Fox continued.

"Yes?"

"If you don't mind my asking... just who is it that you think is going to be chasing you?"

The figure paused, and made eye contact with Fox, before turning away, his answer quietly drifting in the air. "Everybody."

Die Another Day, Part 2:

"Are you planning to reprogram the criminal conspiracy, then, so you can win?"

Casting a glance at Alfred, Wayne responded, "I just think some of Batman's capabilities exceed some people's expectations."

The Demon, Part 5 of 5:

Looking at Bruce Wayne, the master commented, "Some people run from their demons so far, so fast, and for so long, that they become demons themselves."

Rocking Boats:

Her hand couldn't quite find the file on the pavement at her feet. For a moment, she took her eyes off the phantom and looked at the envelope. In an instant she had it and was looking up again -- but the Dark Knight had disappeared back into the darkness of the earliest part of the morning.

The Counterconspiracy: Up in Flames:

Looking up, her eyes closed, the fortune-teller answered slowly.

"The outcome will be as it was decided anciently: in defense of justice, the warrior will work magic, and he will execute the punishments ordained by Heaven."

The Counterconspiracy: "Vigilante" Part 2:

"I think Batman is painting a picture for us... I think he's showing us what this 'War on Crime' is really about. There's a trail that begins with Aladdin and the heroin he produces to fund his crime spree, and that trail leads through all the vices of Gotham City – guns, drugs, prostitutes – and it leads through Gotham's political and business elites, who themselves are dipped in smut and vice and the money that comes with it... it's a trail that leads from Aladdin on one end – " and here Inspector Gordon lowered his eyes, and looked right into the mayor's eyes " – and right through city hall to this office on the other end. It's a trail that leads to you and to the men running in this election cycle, one of whom hopes to take your place in January."

The Counterconspiracy: Witness:

"And where is Master Bruce?" Alfred inquired.

"He said he had one more stop to make tonight."

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 1 of 12:

"Fear has a name," he added slowly, almost whispering now, quietly enunciating every word, "and its name... is 'Batman'."

Now I will have to go over it again to decode the message.

    Gotham City Teasers IV

    The Counterconspiracy: Marked with Blood:

Leaning forward toward Wayne, Nygma added, "In the pool full of sharks that is Gotham's financial world, the mayor's team marked their victims with blood."

    The Counterconspiracy: Up in Flames:

"Here it is, Bruce. Now, pay attention, because it has a few new upgrades."

Attack by Fire: The Pale Horse:

On the table, she placed the Magician and Fire....

"There he works magic; using the eternal flame, he torments the devils," the fortune-teller explained, opening her eyes.

    The Counterconspiracy: Witness:

"At that point, a large figure dressed in flowing black crashed down through the skylight, landing behind the assailants," the officer explained, referring to his notes, and proceeding rather matter-of-factly.

    "Batman," O'Hara said quietly.

The Dark Knight, Part 4 of 5:

"It incorporates a great deal of stealth technology."

"How does that work?" Sasha asked, looking at the Batmobile.

Mirror, Mirror (Part 8 of 8):

"The official story is that two girls escaped from the ring's custody, ran to the village, told the police, and the lieutenant went out with three or four truckloads of police and arrested everyone." The master looked around. "Unofficially, however, there are some details that seem to have been left out of the story."

Attack by Fire: The Pale Horse:

Sasha winced. At a range of less than five meters from Falcone's men, the Batmobile's flamethrower was being discharged.

The Dark Knight, Part 2 of 5:

In Polygon Delta, three large, armed men stood ready, as the giant figure approached them. Facing the referee, they bowed to him, then the three men and the giant figure exchanged quick bows. The referee stepped between them, raising his right hand. "Ready," he lowered his right hand and stepped back quickly as he said "Fight!"

The Dark Knight, Part 3 of 5

"He taught me things that transcend the mechanics of fighting."

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 12 of 12:

"If this indeed has happened, Talia," he thoughtfully said, "then your friend, Bruce Wayne, is the most dangerous man on earth."

    The Counterconspiracy: Heavenly Fury:

"Mr. Wayne, Mr. Fox. I am Special Agent DiViglio of the Gotham Bureau of Investigation. This is my partner, Special Agent Kyle."

"How do you do?" Wayne smiled. "This is the head of my corporate legal department...."

    The Warrior, Part 2:

"You can battle the Mujahideen," Alfred began, "perhaps even corruption in the mayor's office, but if you battle corrupt elements in the GBI, you will be labeled as 'with the criminals'. Those corrupt elements are, after all, the GBI, and the GBI always gets its man!" Alfred looked at Wayne. "If you battle them, the price could be all of this," Alfred pointed around the Batcave.

"If I don't try to defend Gotham, the price will be my soul."

The Dark Knight, Part 5 of 5:

Sasha was now fully suited up in her body armor, armed with a variety of weapons, including small grenades which were remarkably similar to the Batbombs she had seen down below, in the Batcave.

Her orders were to prevent anyone from moving from the Batcave up into Wayne Manor, and, if it became necessary, to coordinate with Alfred a counterattack to retake the Batcave, should it fall into enemy hands.

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 10 of 12:

"Gotham Bureau of Investigation," a voice announced in that same instant from behind, loudly, and with authority. "Nobody move!"

"All right," the phantom quietly said to himself, "now I'm worried."

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 2 of 12:

    "How did you escape?"

    "Alive."

    Thanksgiving:

"No," Sasha answered quietly, "the analysis was that the Batsuit did its job against the submachinegun that the female had. It was the military-grade weapon in the hands of the sniper behind him that did it. The computer analysis shows that this was the lethal shot."

    The Warrior, Part 3:

The boss turned back from the window, and looked around at the people in the room, making eye contact with everyone. Then, he slowly looked upward and thoughtfully stared at the ceiling.

"I have given a name to my problems," he announced with great deliberation, "and it is 'Batman'."

    Gotham City Teasers III

Mirror, Mirror (Part 4 or 8):

The Ancient spoke some more, then the master continued translating. "You have a good heart, a heart of light, but it is wrapped in a dark, armored package. Today you will meet your opposite."

    Autumn Rain:

The card inside had a picture of a cat which was attentively, even menacingly, staring at a hole in a wall, presumably the home of a mouse.

The smile had disappeared from her face as she began to realize this was not some kind of note from Bruce Wayne, but was instead something far more sinister.

She picked up the card again and reread the verse:

Blue is the water by which comes the green.
Tall is the lady; she's Gotham's queen.
Under her eyes, the Roman commands,
Fueling the vices of his empire's lands.
    For wont of their vices they give freedom away;
High is the price for their habits they pay.
See the green lady, she is a slave,
See her blue knights, they are but knaves.
    Powerful is the Roman, this land he does rule;
King takes queen on a knight for a fool.

Suddenly, Sandra felt very much like a mouse.

Attack by Fire: The Pale Horse:

The fortune-teller opened her eyes, looked at the cards, then looked at the master.

"He has descended into the lower parts of the earth. There, he is surrounded by devils."

    Meow!:

    It was another riddle!

Detectives listened to an illegal bug,
But didn't report the criminal plan.
Crime covers up crime, swept under the rug,
All merely for wont of an honest man.
The truth is hidden by towers of lies,
But the crime of the towers is exposed in riddles.
What really happened is quite a surprise!
Dirty cops, a deal with the devil... the man in the middle.

He looked again in the direction of the door, but the reddish-haired woman was long gone.

    Belladonna:

She was assigned to work with an employee who himself had just started at Wayne Enterprises, a thirty-ish looking man named Edward Nygma. He seemed every bit as boring as this work that she needed.

Mirror, Mirror (Part 5 of 8):

Wayne looked at her. He wondered if it was just by accident that Talia rode up beside him.

"And who is Ra's al Ghul?"

"A man who has mastered himself."

Mirror, Mirror (Part 6 of 8):

"Look around you, Bruce. They're not winning this 'War on Crime', and they're not going to win it! The mayor and vice mayor have both said so, their senior staff tell us this every day -- it won't end anytime soon. And no wonder! While they are racking up arrest records bringing in common street thugs, no one is going after the real brains, the real decisionmakers, the real masterminds of the Mujahideen -- no one is going after Aladdin! Key players in the arena, key politicians and key businessmen, don't want the 'War on Crime' to be won, they just want it to be fought. It's a vote-getter and a money-maker."

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 10 of 12:

"Looking for someone?" a low, raspy whisper broke the silence.

The smaller figure whirled around, startled, but just as quickly recovered her composure.

"Difficult it is to sneak up on a cat," she purred. "Harder still to surprise a bat!"

    Die Another Day, Part 1:

"Batman's intervention in the situation led to an absolute disaster – only a tremendous amount of revision of the story could lead someone to think otherwise."

Alfred looked at Wayne through his bifocals.

"The situation was resolved with a minimal amount of violence, Alfred," Wayne answered, looking back down at the Batcomputer.

"The use of fuel-air explosives in a hostage environment can hardly be considered a minimal amount of violence, sir," Alfred responded. "Three quarters of the hostages died, and the criminals who were holding them escaped."

The Demon, Part 5 of 5:

"What you offer is only more of the same – more pain, more suffering, more injustice, more revenge. By becoming judge, jury and executioner, you have become nothing more than a fool!"

    The Counterconspiracy: "Vigilante" Part 2:

"Batman killed over two dozen people. Another dozen or so remain hospitalized. Some of them may still die. The remainder will be horribly scarred and disfigured for the rest of their lives," Bruce Wayne said quietly.

    Meow!:

"What's the matter?" teased Vicki. "Cat got your tongue?"

    The Counterconspiracy: Witness:

"It's called a 'Batsignal'," Vasilissa smiled. "Press the green button for a routine meeting; press the red button if you are in immediate, life-threatening danger. Once the button is pressed, Batman is summoned, and there is no way to cancel the meeting," she explained.

Mirror, Mirror (Part 4 or 8):

Returning to the present, Wayne looked away from the mirror and looked at his companion.

"Have you ever done that before, Dr. Villanova?" Wayne asked. "Kill someone, that is?"

    The Counterconspiracy: Witness:

"'Pivoted?'" O'Hara repeated, looking at the alleyway; there was not enough room for a vehicle to turn around behind the restaurant.

"As in 'on a dime', Detective – those were the exact words of one witness."

    Rocking Boats:

"Gotham Bureau of Investigation," the Dark Knight's voice was the kind of whisper that got someone's attention. "But those two agents are dirty." She studied him, as he continued. "And you're rocking their boat."

"How did you know?" she asked.

The Demon, Part 5 of 5:

"Yes, he's a hero, but more than anything else, Batman is a detective. And he's a very good one. When he pieces enough of this together, and gets the information into the hands of the right people, this whole plan will fall apart."

    The Warrior, Part 3:

"The Knights of the Round Table wore shining armor, but you shall be a dark knight and your armor shall be dark; you shall be a creature of the shadows and of the night. Your heart will be pure, and your works will be good, yet your existence and your reputation will strike terror in the hearts of those who do evil, and it is through this terror that you shall be victorious."

    Inky Black:

"Is it fair to condemn Alfred? He should be living out the remaining years of his life in peace." The master gazed off into the distance. "They will come after him, you know. Even if he goes away, they will hunt him down, because he is important to you." The master looked back at Wayne. "That is how it works. You go after what is important to them, they come after what is important to you."

Bruce Wayne stood on the brink of his destiny, peering into his future. It was an inky blackness, where he could clearly discern nothing except the worst of his fears.

"What do you suggest?" he quietly asked.

Vasilissa the Beauty (Part 1 of 12):

"Remember, Bruce, if they can't see you, they don't know you're there," Lucius Fox had been explaining the first time the figure saw the vehicle.

    "That's the idea."

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 2 of 12:

"I didn't mean to startle you." The voice was a low, raspy whisper. It was the kind of voice that got someone's attention.

Vasilissa the Beauty (Part 10 of 12):

Unnerved now, she struggled to maintain her composure.

Suddenly a popping sound could be heard, and some startled shrieks in the background, as electrical circuits short-circuited and several lights went out. The tall, dark figure did not so much as flinch.

    "Like I said, technical difficulties."

    Maybe this wasn't a set-up.

    "Who are you?"

    "I'm Batman."

    The Counterconspiracy: Witness:

"If Batman was here fighting the assailants, who was driving the Batmobile?" O'Hara interrupted.

"It appeared to be empty. Witnesses later got a look inside it, and there appeared to have been nobody inside until Batman got in the vehicle with one of the victims."

    Autumn Rain:

"Where is he? I know he's nowhere in Wayne Manor," she answered. Alfred had grown fond of her accent.

"It is his way, Sasha," Alfred reassured her. "He is well. Try not to worry."

Attack by Fire: The Pale Horse:

Somebody next to him pointed at a dark vehicle between the warehouse and the utility building.

    "It's Batman!" the man yelled.

    Gotham City Teasers I

The Dark Knight, Part 1 of 5:

"This time, it started out as my parents that were falling, but suddenly... suddenly, it was these two tall buildings. They were tall, squarish, two nearly-identical buildings, and the smoke, instead of being the smoke from a revolver, was the smoke from a fire in these buildings. Then one fell, hitting the pavement below, then the other fell."

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 1 of 12:

"Tonight, I looked Fear in the eyes," he explained, drinking about half his Scotch. "Fear dresses in black," he said, "and it has a bloody face."

Mirror, Mirror (Part 4 of 8):

"They were taking young women off the streets, gang-raping them to break down their resistance, and getting them addicted to drugs, which they then supplied. All of this to force them into a life of prostitution, dependent on the pimps." She paused, a note of anger in her voice.

    The Counterconspiracy: Heavenly Fury:

    "So what's that?"

Inspector Gordon looked at the evidence bag being held up by the narcotics lieutenant.

    "Cigarettes laced with heroin."

The Demon, Part 2 of 5:

"Bruce, you're a prisoner of your past," she began, not sure how to proceed. "In six months, it will be a new millennium. You need to put it behind you."

    "What? My parents' death?"

"Your fixation on the man who killed them." She slowed for a stop light. "He's in prison, Bruce."

The Demon, Part 3 of 5:

"That both you and Master Bruce are still quite young, and it would be a shame for either of you to allow impatience or frustration to rule you." Alfred sipped his tea. "Impatience and frustration are two demons, closely related; allow neither to drive your actions."

Attack by Fire: Three in the Morning:

He smiled. "The prison bars, the prison walls – it's all an illusion. You can walk away any time you want to."

She thought about that, then looked at him. "And what about the prison you are in? Is that an illusion, too?"

The Dark Knight, Part 3 of 5:

"No, hiding is for children. I mean he disappeared, right before their eyes."

    Captivated, Sasha's mouth opened.

"As in 'Now you see him, now you don't,'" Wayne explained.

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 10 of 12:

"The city you love is in danger." It was a different voice, coming from Bruce Wayne's right.

He looked, and saw Gotham City. It was a beautiful morning, the beginning of a work day, and the sky over Gotham was clean and clear, a deep blue. The day was warm and pleasant.

    The Interview:

"Laundering money for organized crime..." Nygma continued, as Wayne looked back out the window, "...by the billions," Nygma whispered.

The Detective (Touch the Sun) Part 12 of 12:

"And when they do not heed this latest warning? What then? Yet another?"

"Patience," he repeated. "When the time is right, the people of Gotham City will come face-to-face with the power that makes the stars shine in the night sky."

With great care, the bearded figure picked up a book and raised his eyes toward heaven. "When the time is right, Gotham City will touch the sun."

    The Warrior, Part 3:

"It says: 'In a world darkened by the overcast of evil, one man will emerge, a warrior, and in defense of justice, he will work magic.'"

    Bushfire Revisited

I haven't posted a great deal lately, because I find the information I am learning to be so captivating that I haven't been able to tear myself away from reading and researching long enough to write!

Mostly what intrigues me is researching the current financial crisis, and considering the information I encounter as viewed under the light of the Sibel Edmonds investigation.

May I ask you to consider carefully the following selection of quotes from the Sibel Edmonds case, and to pay particular attention to references to money and financial institutions, and consider these in the context of our financial crisis?

From Former FBI Translator Sibel Edmonds Calls Current 9/11 Investigation Inadequate by Jim Hogue, May 07, 2004:

JH: Can you explain more about what money you are talking about?

SE: The most significant information that we were receiving did not come from counter-terrorism investigations, and I want to emphasize this. It came from counter-intelligence, and certain criminal investigations, and issues that have to do with money laundering operations.

You get to a point where it gets very complex, where you have money laundering activities, drug related activities, and terrorist support activities converging at certain points and becoming one. In certain points -- and they [the intelligence community] are separating those portions from just the terrorist activities. And, as I said, they are citing "foreign relations" which is not the case, because we are not talking about only governmental levels. And I keep underlining semi-legit organizations and following the money. When you do that the picture gets grim. It gets really ugly.

From Former FBI Translator Sibel Edmonds Calls Current 9/11 Investigation Inadequate by Jim Hogue, May 07, 2004:

JH: Here's a question that you might be able to answer: What is al-Qaeda?

SE: This is a very interesting and complex question. When you think of al-Qaeda, you are not thinking of al-Qaeda in terms of one particular country, or one particular organization. You are looking at this massive movement that stretches to tens and tens of countries. And it involves a lot of sub-organizations and sub-sub-organizations and branches and it's extremely complicated. So to just narrow it down and say al-Qaeda and the Saudis, or to say it's what they had at the camp in Afghanistan, is extremely misleading. And we don't hear the extent of the penetration that this organization and the sub-organizations have throughout the world, throughout their networks and throughout their various activities. It's extremely sophisticated. And then you involve a significant amount of money into this equation. Then things start getting a lot of overlap -- money laundering, and drugs and terrorist activities and their support networks converging in several points. That's what I'm trying to convey without being too specific. And this money travels. And you start trying to go to the root of it and it's getting into somebody's political campaign, and somebody's lobbying. And people don't want to be traced back to this money.

From Cracking the Case: An Interview With Sibel Edmonds by Scott Horton, August 22, 2005:

SH: Okay, and you mention when you talk about criminal activity, drug-running, money-laundering, weapons-smuggling...

SE: And these activities overlap. It's not like okay, you have certain criminal entities that are involved in nuclear black market, and then you have certain entities bringing narcotics from the East. You have the same players when you look into these activities at high-levels you come across the same players, they are the same people.

SH: Well, when we're talking about those kind of levels of liquid cash money we probably also have to include major banks too, right?

    SE: Financial institutions, yes.

From 'The Stakes Are Too High for Us to Stop Fighting Now' An interview with FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds by Christopher Deliso August 15, 2005:

SE: Look, I think that that [the AIPAC investigation] ultimately involves more than just Israelis -- I am talking about countries, not a single country here. Because despite however it may appear, this is not just a simple matter of state espionage. If Fitzgerald and his team keep pulling, really pulling, they are going to reel in much more than just a few guys spying for Israel.

CD: A monster, 600-pound catfish, huh? So the Turkish and Israeli investigations had some overlap?

SE: Essentially, there is only one investigation -- a very big one, an all-inclusive one. Completely by chance, I, a lowly translator, stumbled over one piece of it.

But I can tell you there are a lot of people involved, a lot of ranking officials, and a lot of illegal activities that include multi-billion-dollar drug-smuggling operations, black-market nuclear sales to terrorists and unsavory regimes, you name it. And of course a lot of people from abroad are involved. It's massive. So to do this investigation, to really do it, they will have to look into everything.

CD: But you can start from anywhere --

SE: That's the beauty of it. You can start from the AIPAC angle. You can start from the Plame case. You can start from my case. They all end up going to the same place, and they revolve around the same nucleus of people. There may be a lot of them, but it is one group. And they are very dangerous for all of us.

You can also start from our financial crisis, and our bailout plan.

    Soft Underbelly, Part 1

The Oklahoma City bombing (OKBOMB) was not unlike the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, or the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, or the bombing of the US embassies in Africa. For that matter, it was not unlike the bombing of the USS Cole, except for the rental truck carrying the OKBOMB versus a boat carrying the Cole bomb.

Yet, we are assured by our government that there was no Middle Eastern connection with the OKBOMB.

From testimony in the US Senate in late 2001, THE GLOBAL REACH OF AL–QAEDA:

STATEMENT OF MR. LARRY C. JOHNSON, FORMER DEPUTY DIRECTOR (1989–1993) OFFICE OF COUNTERTERRORISM, DEPARTMENT OF STATE, WASHINGTON, DC:

Mr. JOHNSON. Thank you for having me today, Senator Boxer, and I submitted my statement, and presumably it will be included in the record. I can tell you a first-hand story of an experience that I had in Panama in the Colon Free Zone to illustrate some of the issues that were brought up.

I agree with everything that the FBI colleagues expressed beforehand. The al-Qaeda network exists. They have sympathizers around the world, but they are not these Islamic supermen that can go anywhere, do anything, anytime that they want. They are human beings. They face the same kind of limitations that every other human being does, and as someone who has been involved with scripting counterterrorism exercises for the U.S. military forces that have that mission, I know what it takes to put those folks in motion and to get them from point A to point B, and it is not easy. It is not something you do at a snap of the fingers. They can do it fairly quickly, but you have an enormous amount of resources dedicated to that task. These terrorists fortunately do not have those kinds of resources. They do not have their own military airlift command. They do not have their own logistics support agency.

Twelve years ago, I was involved in Central America, doing an investigation into product counterfeiting that was taking place against a U.S. company, and one of the individuals that we discovered—he is not an al-Qaeda member, but he is involved with radical Palestinian groups that are involved with terrorism. The person we found selling the stuff was named Waleed Sayeed Mazees, and he was out in San Francisco at one point, I think you will be happy to know.

When we busted him for selling these counterfeit products, the local Panamians working with me said this guy is a terrorist, did you know that? I said, no. They said, and he also went to jail for money-laundering, and in this book that he wrote — it is in Spanish — Palestine, the "Burning Silence," he details his secret entries into Palestine to meet with members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and some other groups.

The reason I raise him is, you find right now throughout Latin America, particularly in the Colon Free Zone of Panama, in a little town up in the Guajira Peninsula of Colombia called Maicao and down on the triborder area, in the Cuidad Del Este, which is on the border of Paraguay and Brazil, with Argentina close, there are networks of good Muslims and there are also networks of people affiliated with radical Islamic groups such as Hezbollah, some Hamas ties, and people with sympathies with al-Qaeda.

What makes these potentially of concern, and I can cite the case of Argentina in particular, you have radical groups that sympathize with the Muslims that also have some ties with neo-Nazi groups and that have ties with right-wing groups up here in the United States. Now, fortunately, none of those groups have been willing to carry out attacks against the United States, but these groups exist, they are there, they are operating, and when you look at the case of Argentina, I led a U.S. team when I was with the State Department to Buenos Aires in the aftermath of the bombing of the Israeli Embassy back in 1992, and to this day there is some suspicion that elements of Argentinian intelligence were involved, or at least were sympathetic in helping facilitate the activities of groups like Hezbollah.

Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist groups are active in Latin America, and have ties to neo-Nazi and right-wing groups here in the U.S.; furthermore, these groups have the sympathies of elements of the intelligence services of some Latin American nations -- you know if Argentine intelligence personnel are sympathetic, some Venezuelan personnel are, as well.

From An Investigation of the Belated Production of Documents in the Oklahoma City Bombing Case, Chapter 1, dated March 19, 2002, by the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General:

The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, exploded on April 19, 1995, following the detonation of a bomb. One hundred and sixty-eight individuals died and several hundred more were injured in the explosion. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) began an international investigation to identify and capture the perpetrators.

Just 77 minutes after the explosion at the Murrah Building, an Oklahoma State Trooper stopped Timothy McVeigh for a traffic offense less than 80 miles from the bombing site and subsequently arrested him for unlawfully carrying a handgun. Within 48 hours, the FBI identified McVeigh as a prime suspect in the attack on the Murrah Building. Federal officials charged McVeigh with unlawful destruction by explosives.

Over the course of the next several months, the FBI dedicated enormous resources to identifying the perpetrators of the bombing and obtaining the necessary evidence to indict and convict them. The FBI's 56 domestic field offices, as well as its foreign offices, were involved in the investigation. A task force coordinated the efforts of the FBI, prosecutors, and agents from other law enforcement agencies. The investigation, known as OKBOMB, led to the arrests of two additional suspects: Terry Nichols and Michael Fortier. McVeigh and Nichols were indicted on August 10, 1995, for 11 counts of violating Title 18 of the United States Code relating to unlawful use of explosives and weapons of mass destruction as well as first degree murder. Fortier was indicted for conspiracy, false statements, and other crimes.1

In criminal trials, the government must provide to the defense some of the information contained within its files. This is known as the discovery process. The discovery rules that govern all federal trials require that statements of witnesses testifying at trial, evidentiary items to be used at trial, and information exculpatory to the defendants be disclosed. See Rule 16, Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure; Brady v. Maryland, 373 U.S. 83 (1963); Jencks Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3500. Early in the OKBOMB discovery process, however, the United States agreed to go beyond these requirements and disclose all investigative reports. Over 27,000 investigative reports, 13,000 items of physical evidence, and millions of pages of hotel, motel, and telephone records were produced or made available to the defense before or during the trials.

McVeigh's and Nichols' trials were severed. McVeigh was convicted on all 11 counts on June 2, 1997. On August 14, 1997, following a sentencing hearing, McVeigh was sentenced to death. On December 23, 1997, Nichols was convicted of eight counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of conspiracy. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Both McVeigh and Nichols appealed their convictions, but the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit upheld the convictions and sentences. In December 2000, McVeigh ended his appeals, and his execution was set for May 16, 2001.

Independent of the trial and appellate process, in February 2000, personnel in the FBI's Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Field Office recognized that the warehouse being used to store the OKBOMB investigative materials was probably inadequate for long-term storage. They sought advice from the FBI's archivist on February 18, 2000. After viewing the warehouse storage facility in May 2000, the archivist agreed that the storage facility was inadequate, and he initiated an archival process to preserve the OKBOMB documents. As part of that process, on December 20, 2000, the archivist sent a memorandum to all FBI field offices instructing them to identify their OKBOMB files, permitting them to destroy copies of certain documents previously sent to the OKBOMB Task Force, and requiring them to send a list of the items that had not been destroyed to the Oklahoma City Field Office.

In January 2001, several field offices responded to the archivist's memorandum by destroying some of their OKBOMB documents as they had been authorized to do. Two field offices sent their entire OKBOMB files to Oklahoma City. When Oklahoma City Field Office personnel examined the material sent by the two field offices, they observed documents that they suspected had not been sent previously to the OKBOMB Task Force and that might not have been disclosed to the OKBOMB defendants as part of the discovery process. The Oklahoma City Field Office personnel notified three FBI supervisors about the potential problem: OKBOMB Inspector in Charge Danny Defenbaugh, who was then the Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas, Texas, Field Office; OKBOMB Supervisory Special Agent Mark White, who was then a Supervisory Special Agent in the Dallas Field Office; and Oklahoma City Field Office Supervisory Special Agent William Teater. After consulting with the archivist, the Oklahoma City personnel sent a memorandum on January 30, 2001, to the field offices instructing them not to destroy any material and to send all OKBOMB materials to Oklahoma City.

Over the course of the next several months, FBI personnel in Oklahoma City received OKBOMB files from FBI field offices and foreign offices. Personnel carefully compared the incoming material to OKBOMB records to determine whether the material had been disclosed to defense counsel. By March 2001, FBI personnel determined that a significant number of items sent in by the field offices likely had not been disclosed to defense counsel even though they were within the categories of items that should have been disclosed pursuant to the discovery agreement. By the end of April 2001, when the review process was completed, the number of suspected undisclosed items was over 700.

On May 7, 2001, nine days before McVeigh's scheduled execution, OKBOMB Inspector in Charge Defenbaugh first notified FBI Headquarters about problems with the discovery in the case, and on May 8 he notified the OKBOMB prosecutor. On the same day, the prosecutor contacted the defense attorneys to notify them of the issue. By the next day, May 9, 2001, the OKBOMB prosecutor provided 715 documents, consisting of approximately 3,100 pages, to the defense attorneys.

The problem with the documents in the McVeigh case was immediately disclosed to the press, and on May 10, 2001, the media reported that the FBI had failed to disclose thousands of pages of documents to the defense. On May 11, 2001, Attorney General John Ashcroft postponed McVeigh's execution until June 11, 2001. The Attorney General stated that he was taking the extraordinary action to allow defense attorneys adequate time to review the documents and to "protect the integrity of our system of justice." Also on May 11, the Attorney General requested that the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigate the circumstances surrounding the FBI's belated production of OKBOMB documents.

Within a few days following the initial disclosure, over a hundred more documents that had not been disclosed previously were found in two FBI field offices. As a result, concerns arose as to whether the field offices possessed still more OKBOMB material that needed to be reviewed to determine whether the items had been properly disclosed. During the week following the public disclosure of the problem, FBI Headquarters on several occasions instructed all FBI field offices to send OKBOMB material to Oklahoma City for review. The field offices sent in boxes of additional material, which the FBI also reviewed to determine if any discoverable items had not been disclosed properly. As a result, the FBI determined that a "second wave" of discoverable items, consisting of almost 200 documents, likely had not been disclosed to the defense before the trials. By the end of May, a total of 1,033 items were provided to the defense.

A total of 1033 items that had not been provided to the defense...

Did the truth really come out...?

    The whole truth?

Or, might certain aspects of this affair not have, uh, "surfaced", due to concerns about who might be involved, and in what?

From my earlier post, Out of Context, Part 1:

In the context of the Oklahoma City bombing:

According to Keating, President Clinton's first comment to him after the bombing was "God, I hope there's no Middle Eastern connection to this."

In the context of the Sibel Edmonds case:

SE: In some cases where the FBI stumbles upon evidence of high-level officials being involved in drug-smuggling, they're even prevented from sharing it with the DEA [Drug Enforcement Agency]. The Department of State just comes in and says, "Leave it."

You know, it's funny, after 9/11, the common criticism was that there was "no information-sharing" between the FBI, CIA, and the like, and this is why the terrorists pulled it off -- as if we didn't want to cooperate. No information-sharing? That's the biggest BS I ever heard!

    The Heroin Lobby, Part 9

Lukery is perhaps the best Sibelologist in the blogosphere. At one of his blogs there is a post entitled Sibel 'names names' (in pictures!), which links back to Sibel Edmonds' State Secrets Privilege Gallery. These two links take us on a pictorial tour of the Sibel Edmonds case. That tour names, among many others, Congressman Roy Blunt, former Congressman Bob Livingston and former Congressman Stephen Solarz.

It is interesting to consider some of the information I have turned up in light of that pictorial tour.

First of all, you may wish to review some of my previous posts. A good place to start might be The Turkish Lobby, Obstruction of Justice and Henry Waxman where I identify the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) as a front for Turkish organized crime.

More information can be found in Smuggler's Blues, Part 1 and Smuggler's Blues, Part 2, where I give my readers an overview of the heroin industry, dominated now by Afghan heroin, and how heroin is moved to Europe and the US via Turkish and Albanian organized crime groups.

This continues in The Heroin Lobby, Part 1 and The Heroin Lobby, Part 2, where I also revisit the connection to the TCA. In The Heroin Lobby, Part 3 I once again give the list of names of the Congressional Caucus of the Turkish Coalition of America. In The Heroin Lobby, Part 4 I give a list of names of Congressional representatives who are both members of the TCA's Congressional Caucus, and who have received money from the TCA's associated PAC, the TC-USA PAC.

In The Heroin Lobby, Part 5, we have passages that connect former Congressman Bob Livingston and former Congressman Stephen Solarz to the Turkish lobby, and specifically to events organized by the TCA; Solarz is identified as "a longtime lobbyist for Turkey", and both Solarz and Livingston are connected to a group called the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (USAFMC).

In McCain's Ties to Islamic Terrorists -- and Heroin Traffickers? and especially in The Balkan Connection, Part 2, I identify the Albanian American Civic League (AACL) and its associated Albanian American Public Affairs Committee (AAPAC) as fronts for Islamic terrorists and for Albanian organized crime.

In The Heroin Lobby, Part 8, I call attention to the fact that two students, who are donors to TC-USA PAC, have given $59,600 in political contributions during this campaign cycle. Among the recipients: Congressman Roy Blunt, Republican from Missouri's 7th Congressional District, House Republican Whip and interim majority leader from September 29, 2005, to February 2, 2006.

With this background in mind, it may be interesting to see images of reports filed with the FEC (to which I link in my sidebar, so you can verify my work) showing AAPAC contributions to Congressman Roy Blunt:

Here are images of reports indicating contributions from the TC-USA PAC in this election cycle (the TCA and TC-USA PAC only came into existence in 2007) to Congressman Blunt:

As alluded to above, in The Heroin Lobby, Part 8 I identified two students as operatives (possibly unwitting) for Turkish organized crime; their function is to launder money and funnel it to politicians who are on the take. Here are images from FEC reports showing contributions from them to Congressman Blunt:

Congressman Roy Blunt, Republican from Missouri's 7th Congressional District and House Republican Whip, needs to be investigated for his association with foreign organized crime.

A competent, conscientious and honest investigation will yield indictments of Congressman Roy Blunt and of others; the charges will include, but will not be limited to, money-laundering, racketeering, influence-peddling, and treason.

    Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld: 2007 Index

Although I have been receiving some updates regarding Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld's case, I have not been writing about it. That will change imminently.

Meanwhile, for the benefit of my readers who may not be familiar with her case, Dr. Ehrenfeld is a scholar who is a leading expert in how terrorism is financed. She has authored many articles and a few books on the topic. In a recent book, she connected Saudi Sheikh Khalid bin Mahfouz to the funding of terrorism.

Sheikh bin Mahfouz is one of the world's wealthiest men. A multi-billionaire, he has a reputation of taking his complaints about people who link him to terrorism to the United Kingdom, where his attorneys make the most tenuous of links between the offending author and the United Kingdom in order to establish the jurisdiction of UK courts over the matter. The Sheikh's attorneys then sue the offending author under UK libel laws, which greatly favor the plaintiff.

In Dr. Ehrenfeld's case, the matter was not contested, and Sheikh bin Mahfouz was awarded a victory by default. He now holds over Rachel's head the possibility of seeking to collect damages in New York, where Dr. Ehrenfeld resides and works. It is now difficult for Dr. Ehrenfeld to find a publisher for her work.

From an article that has been posted at Dr. Ehrenfeld's website, The American Center for Democracy, entitled Saudi wields British law against U.S. author, we learn the story:

Rachel Ehrenfeld writes about terrorism for a living. But now she is the one who feels targeted.

Her modest midtown Manhattan apartment is filled to the ceiling with books, most having to do with global terror networks and Mideast conflict. Sitting at her desk, she gazes out at the Hudson River. She says she has a hard time placing her work. She says she has been blacklisted. If she travels to England, she fears she will be arrested.

"I feel like a leper," she said.

Ehrenfeld faces a $225,000 judgment obtained in a British court in a libel suit brought by a former banker to the Saudi royal family, billionaire Khalid bin Mahfouz. "That's the Damocles sword effect. He's holding it above my head to intimidate me and others," she said.

The source of the trouble is Ehrenfeld's book, "Funding Evil: How Terrorism is Financed and How to Stop It," published by Bonus Books. In it, she named bin Mahfouz as a financier of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Bin Mahfouz responded by suing Ehrenfeld -- not in the U.S., but in England, which is friendlier to libel claims.

Bin Mahfouz maintains Ehrenfeld's statements about him are false and reckless and says she is perpetuating myths that have followed him around the globe, endangering his business affairs.

It isn't the first time bin Mahfouz has been tied to bin Laden -- or the first time he has responded by filing a lawsuit. On his personal Web site, he lists the lawsuits he has filed and corrections and apologies he has obtained from some of the leading newspapers in the world.

Ehrenfeld calls bin Mahfouz a "libel tourist" who has used British law to try to halt her investigative work. She has the support in written court filings of Amazon.com, PEN American Center, the American Society of Newspaper Editors and others who worry that litigants such as bin Mahfouz have a chilling effect on American publishers who sell books globally.

Libel Tourism is a term that applies to the actions of people like Sheikh bin Mahfouz who seek a jurisdiction favorable to their legal processes.

However, I use the term Libel Terrorism, since the obvious objective is to terrorize through legal means so the infidel world cannot speak the truth about terrorism, and, if we can't talk or write about it honestly, how can we defend ourselves against it?

Sheikh Khalid bin Mahfouz, whose name features in a widget in my sidebar, is thus a Libel Terrorist. While the "little people" of the Islamic World are sent by the "big people" like Sheikh Osama bin Laden to martyr themselves for Islam, the other "big people" like Sheikh Khalid bin Mahfouz stay well away from the dangerous part of the jihad, but conduct their own terrorism via money and legal battles.

The New York Legislature seems to agree. The state Senate last month passed a bill to enable New York writers and publishers to block enforcement of any British libel judgment. The state Assembly is taking up the legislation.

In court papers, bin Mahfouz's lawyers say the Saudi financier never intended to get at Ehrenfeld's assets in New York and would drop his claims if she would apologize and destroy unsold copies of the book. But when asked by a federal appeals court to waive his right to enforce the judgment in the U.S., bin Mahfouz declined. His lawyers insist that Ehrenfeld is the one who has stoked the controversy to promote book sales.

Of course, it was Sheikh bin Mahfouz and his legal battle that drew attention to the matter. What upsets him is that this infidel -- specifically, this infidel woman -- refuses to submit to his intimidation.

Please visit Dr. Ehrenfeld's site to learn more about the connections between terrorism and organized crime, among other issues that she addresses. Specifically, there is a great deal of news there about her legal counterjihad against Sheikh bin Mahfouz. While there you can make a contribution to her legal defense fund; this page gives links to information about the legal counterjihad and information on how to donate.

As I am cleaning up my sidebar to make room for future posts, I am now placing this list of links from 2007 in this post, and this index will take the place of these links in the sidebar widget where I have links to posts about Dr. Ehrenfeld's case. Please review these posts, which are in reverse-chronological order (oldest on the bottom), for more background on the struggle between one of the wealthiest men in the world, a Financier of Holy Terror, and a scholar-hero who battles him in this epic David-vs-Goliath contest.
